With the November 8, governorship election fast approaching in Anambra State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a new deadline for the collection of Permanent Voters’ Cards across the state.
The Director of Voter Education and Publicity for INEC in Anambra State, Victoria Eta-Messi, said the deadline for PVC collection previously slated for October 29 has been extended to November 2.
According to Eta-Messi, all duly registered voters are expected to head to their collection centres to pick up their PVCs.
In a statement issued in Awka, Anambra capital city on Monday, October 27, Eta-Messi said the decision by the electoral commission to extend the collection of PVCs in the state followed a meeting by INEC officials.
She noted that the meeting is an offshoot of litany of appeals received from citizens and stakeholders in the state who sought for more time to enable registered voters partake of the exercise.
Her words, “The INEC has approved the extension of the ongoing collection of PVCs in Anambra from October 29 to November 2.”
Eta-Messi urged voters to ensure they take advantage of the opportunity to visit their designated centres across the 326 registration areas and wards in the state for the collection of the PVCs.
In addition, the INEC official warned that the commission would not tolerate any form of PVC collection by proxy.
She said, “No collection by proxy is allowed. INEC appreciates the patience, enthusiasm, and cooperation of the good people of Anambra State and urges all eligible voters to use this opportunity to collect their PVCs and get ready to participate in the forthcoming governorship election.”
Recall that the electoral commission had earlier announced its readiness to conduct the much anticipated Anambra governorship election.
INEC’s National Commissioner for Election Planning and Monitoring, Rhoda Gumus who led a delegations of the commission’s staff to the state said the conducted a readiness assessment ahead of the November 8 governorship poll.
The delegation during their visit also inspected the commission’s facilities, security and logistics arrangements so far made in preparation of the election.
