Islamic Cleric, Gumi Reacts as US Revokes Wole Soyinka’s Visa

Controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has commented on the reported withdrawal of Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka’s United States visa.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Gumi likened Soyinka’s situation to when his own Saudi visa was revoked.

“It reminds me of my Saudi visa revoke for no offence beside freedom of speech.

“Poor them. You can’t silence those who don’t need you to survive,” Gumi wrote.

Earlier reported by Politics Nigeria, the US government permanently revoked Soyinka’s US visa.

Soyinka revealed the development on Tuesday during an interaction with journalists at Kongi’s Harvest Gallery, Freedom Park, Lagos Island, stating that he was unaware of any action he had taken that might have led to the decision.

The news has since generated widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing shock and concern.
