“We’ll continue to push policies that protect our people” – VP Shettima

Vice President Kashim Shettima has assured that the administration of President Bola Tinubu will continue to champion policies that protect Nigerians worldwide.

Speaking ahead of the 30th session of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Brazil, the vice president confirmed that Tinubu has approved the adoption of a National Carbon Market Framework and the operationalisation of the Climate Change Fund.

Representing the president, Shettima noted that the present administration is focused on establishing and managing the nation’s effort with the prospects to unlock between $2.5 billion and $3 billion annually in carbon finance within the next decade.

This, he said will help Nigeria to meet up with her climate goals, through approvals that leverage opportunities in the global carbon market and achieve more stability in the climate change ecosystem.

In addition, Shettima stated that Tinubu’s administration is also addressing climate change as not just an environmental imperative but an opportunity to unlock new investments, create jobs and scale up climate change innovations across Nigeria’s energy, agriculture and industrial sectors.

He also assured that as chairman of the council, Tinubu will prioritise climate action in his administration’s development plan.

He said, “Nigeria stands ready to take its rightful place as a global leader in climate action, ensuring that our voice and our reality are heard and respected in international negotiations.

“We will continue to champion policies that protect our people, strengthen our economy and position Nigeria as a destination for green investment and innovation,” Shettima said.
