Court Admits Video Evidence Featuring Danjuma, Uzodinma, DSS DG in Nnamdi Kanu’s Defense

According to reports from DAILY POST on Thursday, May 22, the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday admitted into evidence a flash drive containing video recordings featuring prominent national figures, in support of the defense of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Justice James Omotosho admitted the flash drive and its accompanying certificate of compliance as exhibits in the ongoing trial. The flash drive was marked as Exhibit PW-P, while the certificate validating the digital evidence was labeled Exhibit PWP-1.

The materials were submitted by Paul Erokoro, SAN, who is representing Kanu in the case. Erokoro tendered the documents during court proceedings, and there was no objection from the Federal Government’s legal representative, Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN.

Contained in the flash drive are three separate video clips featuring retired General T.Y. Danjuma, the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, and the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Adeola Ajayi. The videos were presented as part of Kanu’s legal defense and were played publicly in court during the session.

A key witness for the prosecution an officer of the DSS who was identified by the initials BBB was cross-examined by the defense counsel after the videos were played. The content of the recordings has not been officially disclosed, but they are believed to contain statements relevant to the broader security and political context surrounding Kanu’s trial.

The decision to admit the videos is seen as a significant development in a case that has attracted both national and international attention, given Kanu’s high-profile status and the controversy surrounding the activities of IPOB.

Kanu, who was extradited to Nigeria in 2021, faces multiple charges including treasonable felony and incitement. His legal team has consistently argued that his prosecution is politically motivated, and has been seeking to present evidence to support claims of bias and irregularity in the government’s handling of the matter.
