Alhaji Adam Gbechi, a resident of Lata Nna in the Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, has regained his freedom days after being abducted by armed bandits.

Gbechi was kidnapped during a violent raid on his community, an incident that left residents in fear and heightened insecurity concerns in the area.

However, he was released and returned home safely on Monday morning.

His release comes barely 24 hours after his abductors reportedly demanded a ransom of N150 million, though it remains unclear if any payment was made before his freedom was secured.

Nupekotv Lafiagi reports that, according to a close relative who spoke on condition of anonymity, Alhaji Gbechi regained his freedom without the payment of the hefty ransom demanded by his abductors.

However, when asked whether the family had paid the money, the source simply said, “No.”

Alhaji Gbechi was abducted from his residence in Lata Nna on Sunday night, along with his brother, Alhaji Aji Hajaworo, and a married woman.

The latter two managed to escape shortly after their capture, but Gbechi remained in captivity as his family had openly admitted they could not meet the kidnappers’ enormous financial demand.

Meanwhile, the circumstances of his release remain unclear, leaving many in the community surprised.

Earlier, SaharaReporters reported that gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed a resident, identified as Alhaji Gomina, shortly after evening prayers in Lade community, Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Sunday night.

The victim had just concluded the ‘Isha’i’ prayer at a local mosque and was heading home when the attackers waylaid him.

According to residents, the gunmen opened fire on him without provocation, leaving him dead on the spot before escaping into the night.

The killing has thrown the community into mourning, with locals describing Alhaji Gomina as a well-respected man known for his dedication to religious and communal activities.

Security concerns have continued to grow in Kwara North and South in recent months, as several communities have reported cases of attacks, kidnappings, and forced displacement.
