Business partners, family, and friends sharing their emotional testimony with the court ahead of the sentencing.

Last April, a jury convicted Darryl Roberts for the September 2023 murder of Christopher Wright. The incident was caught on surveillance cameras.

Roberts returned to Hamilton County Criminal Court on Monday for his sentencing hearing.

Before he learned his sentence, friends and family members gave impact statements as Roberts looked on, including Wright’s mother Janet, who said.

This man gave my three grandchildren a life sentence of having no Dad.

Jeanette described how watching footage of Chris Wright in the last hour of his life during Roberts’ trial made her happy.

For me it was a blessing because I go to see my son and I got to see his hand motions, and boy were they going, which means he was telling funny stories.

But Jeanette’s disposition changed when she turned and addressed Roberts, saying

You said it was a dangerous place, you’re the one that made it dangerous, you’re the one that had a gun.

You decided you wanted to kill him, not hurt him, not show him your gun and scare him or shoot at him, you didn’t want him to have any kind of chance.

Another man who described himself as Wright’s business partner said

Chris was the highest measure of a man I’ve met in my lifetime.

During the defense’s arguments in the trial, they showed the last hours of Chris Wright’s life in a Chattanooga bar, where they asked a bartender if he was being aggressive and flirtatious to an unnamed woman who came in with him and a classmate from Baylor’s reunion.

That business partner, Benjamin Brown, addressed that in court on Monday, saying.

“I can’t not address the hideous misrepresentations that came out of this process by people who didn’t know Chris Wright and making absurd conjecture and accusations.

Another man who said he had known Wright since pre-school, told the court after the murder,

The next morning I held his 8-week old baby daughter for the first time while his wife told 2 and 4 year old sons that their Daddy wasn’t coming home. I can still hear their screams as they try to make sense of words that no child should ever have to hear.

The judge presiding over the hearing sentenced Roberts to 90 years in prison: 60 for murder, and 30 for a firearm charge.

The defense called on Dr. Kimberly Brown, professor of clinical psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Vanderbilt.

She said she met with Roberts following the shooting and diagnosed him with several mental illnesses, including PTSD….CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
