Troy Dugas, 36, was “mistakenly released from jail” on August 17 at 4:30 a.m. local time, according to a Facebook post from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) on August 18.

“Dugas was due to begin serving a 5-year state prison sentence for assaulting a family member in Fort Bend County and a 2-year sentence for evading arrest in Brazoria County,” the HCSO wrote.

Dugas had been held in police custody since August 14, on other charges that had been dismissed, according to a separate release from the HCSO. Jail employees allegedly failed to properly document his scheduled state prison sentence and believed he was ready for release after the other charges were dropped.

According to the description, Dugas is a black male, weighs 215 pounds, stands at 6 feet 1 inch, and has a tattoo on his neck.

“A thorough investigation will be conducted to determine the circumstances that led to Dugas’ erroneous release from jail,” the HCSO said.

However, online users appeared to make a mockery of the issue in the department’s comments section.

One wrote, “Nobody is going to turn him in without a reward come on now you got to put at least $5,000 out there.”

Another’s comment read, “If I find him can I finally get a job there. I have applied many times. You can keep the award money.”

Another joked, “I know when they cut him loose he was like “won’t god do it”. Lol”

Still, others questioned how such a mistake could happen.

Someone suggested, “It can happen if two people have the same or similar names, however they need to double check the spellings, both years, etc.”

Another said, “Kinda like saying I accidentally shot someone. No such thing, it’s called negligence!! Hopefully he doesn’t try to retaliate and go after his victim.”….CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
