The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, recently shared his thoughts on security in Nigeria and reflected on his early experiences in the military. Speaking at a public event, he praised past leaders, especially retired Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, for their dedication and service to the country.
In a video shared by SYMFONI TV, General Musa recalled his first meeting with General Buratai when Buratai was the Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Infantry. At that time, Buratai was a Brigadier General, and Musa was a Colonel. Musa said he watched how Buratai rose through the ranks to become the Chief of Army Staff.
“My first contact with him was when he was commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Infantry, then as a brigadier general, and I was a Colonel,” he said. He admired how Buratai helped grow and strengthen the Nigerian Armed Forces through hard work and commitment.
He also talked about the strong bond within the military, describing it as a family where relationships go beyond just friendship. “We know each other’s families, our children, our parents. Mentorship in the military is lifelong,” he said. Musa thanked retired military officers for guiding and supporting younger officers like him.
Speaking on national security, General Musa said that everyone in the country has a role to play in keeping Nigeria safe. He gave an example of Boko Haram, saying it started as a small group but grew because people didn’t act quickly enough. “We must come together and close the gaps so the enemy doesn’t break through,” he said.
