Video: Despite Absence, Buhari Sends Ten Bags of Rice, Cow, and N500,000 to Corps Members

Despite his absence from Daura for this year’s Eid celebrations, former President Muhammadu Buhari maintained his long-standing tradition of generosity to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to Daura Zone.

On Sunday, the corps members paid their customary Sallah homage to Buhari’s residence, where they were warmly received by his nephew, Alhaji Musa Haro Daura, the District Head of Dumurkol.

The visit, an annual tradition for NYSC members in the area, proceeded without the former president being physically present.

However, in a gesture that reaffirmed his bond with the young Nigerians serving in his hometown, Buhari sent gifts of ten bags of rice, a cow, and a cash donation of N500,000 to the corps members.

video capturing the event was shared by Buhari’s former spokesperson, Garba Shehu, on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on June 8, 2025. In the video, Shehu noted, “NYSC members deployed to Daura Zone paid their usual Sallah homage to former President Muhammadu Buhari.

He was not in town to receive them, but his nephew and District Head of Dumurkol, Alhaji Musa Haro Daura, welcomed them and conveyed the President’s best wishes.”

The video showed the District Head addressing the corps members, expressing Buhari’s gratitude and continued affection for the NYSC scheme and its participants.

“Baba said I should convey his greetings and his best wishes for your service year,” Alhaji Musa Haro Daura told the visiting group.

“He asked that you accept these modest gifts as a token of his appreciation for your commitment and sacrifices.”

The gifts were presented on behalf of the former president, with the corps members seen expressing their thanks and posing for photographs in front of the residence.

The cash gift and food items are meant to support the corps members during the festive period and ease some of the challenges faced while serving in rural communities.

Former President Buhari, who has always maintained close ties with Daura and the NYSC community there, has made it a practice to host and support corps members during religious festivities, whether in residence or not.

This year’s gesture, despite his absence, further underscores his enduring relationship with the youths and the importance he places on national service.

The visit concluded with prayers for peace in Nigeria, good health for the former president, and successful service years for the visiting corps members.
