BREAKING NEWS: Nigerian woman arrested at India-Bangladesh border town for illegal entry

The suspect, identified as Ngridowu Adurgebemi Bussing (29), was detained on Saturday during a joint operation conducted by personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Government Railway Police (GRP), according to local media reports.

According to security officials, Bussing was found in possession of Bangladeshi and Indian currencies totaling Rs 8,000. She reportedly offered little information during initial questioning. Authorities believe she entered India from Bangladesh through one of the porous border routes in the Belonia sector.

Following her detention, Bussing was produced before the Belonia Court, which remanded her to judicial custody pending further investigation.

Her arrest comes barely four months after another Nigerian, Francis Odoko (41), was taken into custody at the same railway station on April 12, 2025. At the time, Odoko was found with four mobile phones and was later revealed to have served a three-year sentence in Chandigarh for a cybercrime conviction.

Speaking on the recent development, a senior security officer said the detention highlights “the continuing challenge of cross-border movement and its potential links with criminal activities.”
