On Sunday, August 24, 2025, Punch reported that Dorothy Onyekasi, a 41-year-old widow, had been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos for trying to import cocaine by pretending to be pregnant…..CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
The arrest happened on an Emirates flight from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, as passengers were being screened inbound. Onyekasi was discovered in possession of 86 pellets of a white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine, according to a statement released by NDLEA spokesperson Mitchell Ofoyeju. The entire weight of the material was 1.720 kg, and its estimated street value was N20.6 million.
The defendant cleverly disguised the medicine by attaching the pellets to her abdomen, giving the appearance that she was pregnant. However, NDLEA agents found the hidden drugs during a routine search. The agency stressed that although dishonest, these tactics are not unusual among drug traffickers trying to avoid detection. Ahmadu Garba, the NDLEA Commander at the Lagos airport, pointed out that the cocaine wraps may have easily been confused for a pregnancy. The suspect was found to have kept 86 wraps of cocaine in a sack attached to her stomach, he said. Regretfully, when she arrived from Dubai, NDLEA officers found the narcotic.
Col. Muhammad Abdallah (retd.), the agency’s chairman, said the recent drug seizures at the airport were a big step that might make drug gangs rethink their tactics. He reaffirmed the organization’s dedication to stopping drug trafficking and protecting national security. Onyekasi, a mother of three from Enugu State, holds a certificate from the Junior Secondary School. She is being held by the NDLEA and will be prosecuted in line with Nigerian law. The public is still being urged by the NDLEA to exercise caution and report any questionable drug trafficking-related activity…..CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
