His allegations triggered a major investigation, political uproar, and forensic excavations.
Though police say the man lied, human remains have been found at two sites he identified.
The temple’s chief administrator denies wrongdoing and supports the inquiry.
What began as a whispered confession has exploded into one of India’s most unsettling controversies — and it’s unfolding in the heart of a sacred town.
Dharmasthala, a centuries-old pilgrimage site in Karnataka, is now at the center of a storm after a former temple cleaner claimed he was coerced into burying hundreds of women who were raped and murdered. The man, whose identity remains hidden, said he worked at the temple for nearly two decades and had kept the secret buried — literally — until guilt forced him to speak out.
He didn’t name names, but pointed fingers at the temple administration. When brought before a magistrate, he produced a human skull from his bag, claiming it belonged to one of the victims. That moment — surreal and chilling — triggered a full-scale investigation.
The state government quickly formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT), which began excavating 13 sites the man had identified. Some were deep in the forest, reportedly snake-infested and difficult to reach. And while officials now say the skull wasn’t retrieved from any of those locations, they’ve confirmed that human remains — including nearly 100 bone fragments — were found at two of the sites. Forensic testing is underway.
On Saturday, the man was arrested for perjury. Police say his claims don’t hold up, but the discovery of remains has left the public uneasy. Was he lying — or was he silenced?
The temple’s chief administrator, Veerendra Heggade, a decorated public figure and member of India’s parliament, has welcomed the investigation. He insists the allegations are baseless but says the truth must come out.
The case has ignited political tensions. Opposition leaders accuse the government of targeting a revered Hindu site, while the ruling Congress party says justice must be pursued, no matter where it leads.
For now, Dharmasthala remains in limbo — a town built on faith, now grappling with fear, mystery, and the weight of unanswered questions……CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
