SAD: FRCN Assistant Director Dies After Living In Office For Two Years

An Assistant Director at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Yahaya Umar, has died after allegedly living in his office for over two years due to a lack of housing..CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

Umar, popularly known as “Socials,” was discovered dead in his office at the FRCN headquarters in Abuja in early June. Before his death, he anchored network news at 7 a.m., 4 p.m., and 10 p.m. daily.

Multiple sources revealed that he had no accommodation and had turned his office into a living space since his transfer from the Kaduna station to Abuja. Household items such as buckets and sleeping mats were found in his office after his death.

A colleague of his posted in the organisation’s WhatsApp group, “At first, it was assumed that he came early to work as he was always the first to arrive every day for years, until it was later discovered that he had been living in his office for the past two years. He had been sleeping in his office for the past two years – a federal government employee of over 30 years sleeping in his office means he has been homeless.

“I know I’m grieving, even if I do not wish to acknowledge it. I’m in grief, alongside many of my dear friends and colleagues from Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) who woke up to the sudden demise of one of the finest and erudite staff members who have worked and given so much to the corporation.

“Yahaya Umar Socials is a well-known name in Radio Journalism, on air from Radio Nigeria way back from the 90s where he began his career and rose through the ranks to mid-level.”

His colleagues lamented that the FRCN has become a shadow of its former self and blamed the poor state of journalism and staff welfare for Yahaya’s tragic death.

A retired staff member of the FRCN also commented, “Yahaya’s story is a stark illustration of the struggles many Nigerian public servants face. With over 30 years in government employment, his inability to afford basic housing, forcing him into homelessness, underscores the dire economic realities for a significant portion of the workforce.

“It’s an open secret that many public servants cannot secure decent housing on their meager salaries, often resorting to additional hustles to make ends meet.

This harsh truth stands in stark contrast to the widespread emptiness of over 70% of houses in Abuja, many likely owned by individuals air jordan 3 black cement 2024 with questionable qualifications and exorbitant wages, who contribute little to governance while ordinary citizens struggle for survival.”

Sources claimed that FRCN management tried to suppress the fact that Umar, despite being an Assistant Director, had been living in his office.

Speaking to SaharaReporters travis scott air jordan 1 retro low og black olive release date fall 2024, the Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) at FRCN, Tersoo Zamber, confirmed, “It is true that we found Yahaya dead in his office, in fact, we also saw some living room items in the office.

“When the incident happened, it brought a reflection of what we have been telling the management of the Radio House over time on the need to prioritise the welfare of the staff.”

He also recalled how news readers were previously given special allowances, “News readers used to have special allowances, which was suddenly stopped. What happened to Yahaya is a case of someone not being able to take care of himself or meet his needs.

“In fact, since the Director General Giuseppe Zanotti low top embossed croc-effect sneakers came in, we have been engaging him to ensure that staff welfare is improved, but all to no avail. It is not something to lie about, we cannot hide it, staff welfare at FRCN is poor and not a priority.”CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
