The drug agency in a post on its social media handles on Wednesday disclosed that the money was discovered during the Open Drug Market operation at Tenant Road, Aba, Abia State, in February.

The post further explained that its investigation found that the funds, totalling N5m, belonged to a Point-of-Sale (POS) operator, Mr Godfrey Chukwudi.

The sum was counted in the presence of officials from the DSS, the Military, and the Police, who participated in the operation and was subsequently returned in the presence of Mr Chima Amadi, Chairman of the Ekumi Traders Medicine Dealers Association Union, alongside NAFDAC Directors Pharm. Shaba Mohammed and Dr Martins Iluyomade.

“The money was discovered during the Open Drug Market operation at Tenant Road, Aba, Abia State.

“The sum was counted in the presence of the various security personnel who participated in the operation.

“It was confirmed that the funds belonged to a POS operator.

“The money was subsequently returned in the presence of Mr Chima Amadi, Chairman of the Ekumi Traders Medicine Dealers Association Union, alongside NAFDAC Directors Pharm. Shaba Mohammed and Dr Martins Iluyomade.”

Recall that in February, NAFDAC raided Ekumi Plaza, a prominent drug market in Aba, during which large quantities of fake, unregistered, and banned drugs were allegedly discovered and seized.
