Reports indicate that the Yelwata area witnessed a horrifying assault in which over a hundred residents lost their lives. Homes and properties were set ablaze as armed assailants unleashed terror on the unsuspecting community.
The tragedy has triggered a storm of accusations. While some believe Fulani herdsmen were behind the attack, others argue that the identity of the perpetrators remains unclear and should not be hastily assumed.
Amid these tensions, Yusuf Adam, who identified himself as a herder, shared his views in a circulating video. In the clip, Adam claimed that Fulani herdsmen living in Benue State have been consistently generous and supportive of other ethnic groups. However, he said that these positive actions have often been met with hostility.
Adam alleged that members of the Idoma tribe have targeted Fulani families—killing their children and burning down their homes—only to later claim to be victims of attacks.
According to the videovideo, “Those that their cows and children are being killed and their properties destroyed don’t have any other business, but when we fight back, they started shouting ‘Fulani,’ and we are also crying for help, but nobody helps us.”

The video, which has drawn mixed reactions online, appears to begin at the 2:31 mark where Adam voices his concerns and frustrations.
As emotions continue to run high in the region, the need for truth, reconciliation, and justice has become more pressing than ever. Many believe that rather than promoting blame, stakeholders must address the root causes of the recurring violence in Benue and similar hotspots.
