As previously reported by Face2Face Africa, Marins was hiking close to the crater of Mount Rinjani on the morning of Saturday, June 21 when she fell. Rescuers found her body on Tuesday, June 24.

Located on the island of Lombok and standing at 3,726 meters, Mount Rinjani is the second-highest volcano in Indonesia. Marins was in the company of five friends and a tour guide when she fell about 600 meters below the trail. Authorities in Brazil said the 26-year-old fell from “a cliff that surrounds the trail next to the volcano’s crater.”

Per The Independent, Marins fell twice, and she initially survived the first one. Videos that were shared online and by Brazilian news outlets also showed Marins down the cliff. She was initially seen in a sitting position and making movements, seemingly indicating that she was still alive.

Rinjani park authorities also disclosed that she was heard shouting for help, but rescuers initially faced difficulties locating and getting to her because of the challenging terrain and foggy weather. On June 24, rescuers ultimately found her body after dispatching a thermal drone down the cliff, but she had fallen further at the time. Marins was pronounced dead at the scene, and her second fall is suspected to have been the fatal one.

Marins underwent the first autopsy in Bali, and her cause of death was ruled as trauma within 20 minutes. She is said to have died from “internal bleeding caused by damage to organs and bone fractures,” Agência Brasil reported. Her injuries stemmed from “blunt force trauma.”

The report also stated that Marins did not suffer hypothermia as there were no symptoms of such a nature. The final autopsy results should be available in two weeks, The Independent reported.

Forensic specialist Dr Ida Bagus Putu Alit informed news outlets that Marins died after she suffered serious trauma to “almost all parts of her body,” News.com.au reported. Dr Alit also said those are fall injuries, and the severe ones Marins suffered were spotted on her back and limbs.

Her family had claimed that she fell from the cliff after she was abandoned by the tour guide. Earlier, Marins’ sister told Brazilian TV station Fantástico that Marins was “abandoned” by a local hiking guide before she fell. She claimed that Marins asked her guide to “stop for a while” after she “got very tired” during her hike, however, the guide didn’t but continued without Marins. “They continued on, and the guide didn’t stay with her,” Marianna said.Marins’ body was returned to Brazil on July 1, and she was laid to rest on July 4.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
