The 61-year-old actress via her Instagram on Wednesday, shared a video where she’s seen addressing the veteran actor with powerful traditional titles in Igbo, referring to him as “Onunaenyi of Nteje Abogu, Agabaiduu of Aguleri, the Lion of Africa,” and prayed that he would continue to be her husband’s father.
Translating her message, she said, “My father Ebubedike, may you continue to be my husband’s father. Ebubeagu of Ibobo, your strength surpasses all. It is always well with you.”
Rita ended the post by calling on her followers to join her in celebrating Pete Edochie, describing him as “the symbol of the Edochies in Nteje Abogu and beyond.”
The actor responded by criticising the actress for ignoring the insults directed at the Edochie family during the controversy between Linc Edochie and his estranged partner, Yinka Theisen.
He also accused the veteran actress of failing to call out fans of May Edochie, the ex-wife of controversial actor Yul Edochie, who have been cursing the actor since he announced his second marriage to Judy Austin.
His post reads: “Aunty Rita, you are calling Sir Pete Edochie the #Best Father in law on Earth, but you keep QUIET when Nigerians INSULT him and the Edochie family, is that not HYP*CRISY? 🙄 Ever since Nigerians and supporters of my Queen May Queen May has been Insulting that FAMILY, have you ever for once made a POST on social media to tell them to STOP?
“Yet, you claim Sir Pete Edochie is the best #Father in law only for social media LIKES and praises. In IGBO Culture, Ma, you are not even allowed to critic*se any member of the Edochie family, because Na WIFE you be, Na your HUSBAND Wey MARRY you come that Family get right to criticize Yul, Linc or even JUDY Oni Kaba, not you, so, why are you disrespecting our great Igbo CULTURE.”
