Brenda Spencer and Brad Moseley forced their daughter to eat from a popcorn bucket, wouldn’t allow her to bathe, and shaved her head, according to prosecutors.

Amidst the other forms of alleged torture, the girl also told police that she was beaten with a belt and sexually abused by her stepfather, NJ.com reported.

Moseley claimed that due to his heavy drinking he ‘couldn’t recall’ sexually assaulting his step-daughter, but ‘said it was possible,’ prosecutors allege.

Spencer, 38, and Moseley, 41, were arraigned on Monday after being arrested in May, with Spencer’s raspy voice so faint she had to repeat herself during the appearance at the Superior Court in Camden

Following her 18-year-old daughter’s ‘escape’ with the help of a neighbor, disturbing allegations emerged of several years of torture dating to 2018; when the family removed her from school in the sixth grade under the guise of homeschooling by Spencer.

Camden County Prosecutors said that the girl described being trapped in a padlocked bathroom and chained up by her wrists and ankles, only to be let out when there were visitors at their New Jersey residence.

She was kept inside of a dog crate meant for the family’s Great Danes. She lived in the cage for one year and was only let out periodically.

At other times, her mother and stepfather confined her to a room with no furniture. She was given only a bucket to use as a toilet.

The room was rigged up with an alarm system, which would alert the couple if the teenager tried to escape.

When police arrived at the house, they said that she was living in ‘squalid’ conditions, calling the scene ‘despicable.’

The girl was surrounded by dogs, chinchillas, and other animals. Her now 14-year-old sister also lived in the home.

Her sister was pulled out of school to be homeschooled but it seems she was not subjected to the same abuse.

Rather, her parents kept her at home to stop her from exposing her sister’s torture.

At the couple’s separate arraignments on September 8, Spencer denied any involvement in the abuse.

Amidst their parents’ trial, police said both daughters are in ‘safe locations.’

Spencer could receive 30 years in prison if she is convicted. Moseley could be sentenced to prison for life.

Both of their attorneys entered ‘not guilty’ pleas on behalf of the couple.

Assistant Prosecutor Rachael Manardi presented plea deal proposals to the defense, but Spencer’s lawyer said it was far too early.

He said: ‘This is where the game begins, if you will.’
