According to reports, the incident happened in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester’s Tameside Hospital.

A surprised coworker reportedly discovered Dr. Suhail Anjum, 44, and the nurse known as Nurse C during the hearing in a “compromising position.” In order to allow a male patient to take a comfort break during a treatment, the consultant anaesthetist had asked another nurse to watch over him. Rather, he moved to another operating room after leaving theatre five, which is where the tragedy happened. The General Medical Council (GMC) was represented by Andrew Molloy, who informed the tribunal that on September 16, 2013, Dr. Anjum was in charge of five cases in theatre five and had left during the third operation. Nurse NT discovered Dr. Anjum and Nurse C having sex shortly after she entered theatre eight.

“While Dr Anjum was adjusting his own clothing, she reported seeing Nurse C with her pants around her knees and her knickers exposed,” Mr Molloy stated. “Shocked, Nurse NT hurried out of the theatre.” After around eight minutes, Dr. Anjum went back to theatre five. The patient was unharmed, and the treatment went ahead without any more problems. Nurse NT informed her line boss about the situation.

Dr. Anjum admitted to the facts prior to the matter coming before the GMC, admitting that he had sex with Nurse C and that his conduct might have put the patient in danger. He acknowledged leaving Tameside Hospital in February 2024 and returning to Pakistan during the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service hearing, but he stated that he would like to continue his profession in the UK.

He maintained that it was a “one-off error of judgement” and that it would not happen again. During his testimony, Dr. Anjum called the situation “shameful” and accepted responsibility for failing his patient, his coworkers, and the hospital’s trust. He apologised for the possible risk to the patient and admitted to putting Nurse NT in a “awkward position.” After his youngest child was born prematurely in January 2023, Dr. Anjum blamed his personal stress for the decision-making error. He said that the horrific event had an impact on his mental health and general well-being, which influenced his behaviour at work.

He said the panel, “My family was going through a very trying time at the time of the incident.” “I have always held myself to a very high standard. I wish I could go back in time, but I’m not sure how it happened. I sincerely apologise to all those concerned. The panel will decide if Dr Anjum’s wrongdoing has compromised his ability to practise when the hearing resumes in Manchester……CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
