He claims that his parents had been devoted churchgoers for more than 23 years. While his mother was involved in the women’s group, his father held a leadership position. They worked together to transform the church from a modest wooden building into a large parish with contemporary amenities. Additionally, he disclosed that his parents made monetary contributions and even backed the establishment of new parishes. However, when his mother became gravely ill, everything was different. The family said that no one from the church checked on them or provided any help over their many years of service. Instead, the pastor allegedly urged them to give gasoline money before he could go to the hospital when they asked for prayers.
The young man remembered a traumatic experience that left him utterly broken. He stated: “I begged a pastor for help because I was starving, but he said he didn’t have ₦1,000—but he came to watch a movie.” He went on to say that church officials did not show up for his mother’s funeral even after she passed away from cancer. He claimed that the family felt deceived and abandoned as a result.
His father’s subsequent health issues made matters worse. The family has been struggling on their own with little to no help. He claimed he felt the public should know the truth about what transpired, which is why he made the decision to speak out. Additionally, the young man clarified that he no longer considers the church to be a secure place. He prays in solitude at home instead. Online responses to his widely shared video were divided; some people defended the church, while others related similar neglect stories.
