Ideh’s upbringing in a single-parent home presented challenges that might have been too much to handle. Before Ideh was born, her mother had experienced several miscarriages and a traumatic divorce. She persisted in wanting a child and raising her with a strong sense of faith in spite of these obstacles. Ideh’s personal situation was further complicated by the limited role her father, who already had another family, played in her early years. Ideh claimed that these encounters taught her the value of tenacity, faith, and spiritual direction. She described how her mother’s faith-based choices guided her through life’s uncertainties and motivated her own development.
“My mom was a single mom,” Ideh remarked, looking back on her childhood. My mother and father were not wed. My mom had recently ended a divorce, and my dad had a family. She had been attempting to conceive, but each time she became pregnant, she would lose the pregnancy. She got pregnant and didn’t miscarry after meeting my dad one day while she was with her sister.
