Bidemi Agboola, 31, told our correspondent that on April 4, 2024, while cooking, she had a seizure and fell face-first into a charcoal fire, severely burning her face and other portions of her body.
The day started like any other, according to Bidemi, a teacher at a nearby nursery. She came home to feed her two young sons, Daniel and Damilare, after attending a friend’s funeral. She chose to cook for them because she was short on funds, but she claimed to have passed out while doing so. “I can’t recall what took place. At the cottage hospital in Iloffa, I merely woke up in agony. For a week, I was unable to open my eyes,” she remembered. Medical personnel were concerned that she would become blind. “The doctor examined my eyes with a torch. “I would have died if they had delayed five minutes,” Bidemi remarked. She clarified that due of the fire, rescuers had to tear off clothing that was adhered to her skin.
Bidemi claimed that emotional traumas exacerbated the physical injuries. She claimed that following the accident, her spouse abandoned her. He claimed that with my looks like this, we couldn’t be together. She added, “He left me and the kids behind.” As she strives to care for her sons, the separation has pushed her to rely on family and the community. Her medical bill was covered by donations from the community, and N150,000 was given by the local government to help pay for her care. However, Bidemi stated that money is still a significant obstacle and that she worries about the future. “I can only hope, but I can get better than this with more help,” she stated.
Bidemi also talked about the public stigma she encounters. They look at me like I’m not human. It’s not a pleasant experience,” she added, adding that, per doctor’s advice, she frequently covers a portion of her face with a scarf to keep the flies and stares away. When she first saw Bidemi in the hospital, her mother was upset and has been attempting to help her. Bidemi claimed that she was already fragile after losing the guy who served as her father, and her feelings of grief were exacerbated by her husband’s departure. She is still thankful to be alive, though. “I simply give thanks to God for my life. “I live for my sons,” she continued……CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
