According to Mwanza Police Station spokesperson, Sergeant Ritta Nyirongo, the suspect allegedly lured the girl by promising her extra lessons. The scheme began after Maliro identified the girl as one of the students performing poorly in his class.
“He told the girl that she should be coming to his house every night so that he could give her extra tuition,” Nyirongo stated.
The police spokesperson confirmed that the suspect followed through on this plan for an entire month. However, the alleged extra lessons were a pretext for a different, criminal purpose.
The teacher’s actions were uncovered, leading to his arrest this week. Law enforcement officials apprehended Maliro at a photocopying center on Tulonkhondo Road.
The suspect is currently in police custody and is expected to be brought before the Mwanza Magistrate’s Court shortly to be formally charged.
The case has sent shockwaves through the local community, raising serious concerns about the safety and security of learners in educational environments.
