The Lagos State Police Command has announced plans to arraign a 55-year-old National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, official, Samsideen Oladiti, widely known as Shamelon, over his alleged role in two violent incidents on Lagos Island.
According to the command, Oladiti is under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti-Yaba, for offences bordering on murder and assault occasioning grievous harm.
Police reports indicate that on September 17, 2025, at around 3:00 p.m., Oladiti allegedly launched a brutal attack on a dispatch rider on Lagos Island, striking him with a helmet and bare fists. The victim, who sustained life-threatening injuries, was immediately hospitalised, placed on oxygen, and is still undergoing medical treatment.
Barely a day later, on September 18, another complaint was filed linking Oladiti to a separate violent altercation that occurred on August 28, 2025. In that incident, he allegedly used a metallic ring to repeatedly hit a man on the head and face. Despite receiving medical attention, the victim succumbed to his injuries on September 17, and his remains were deposited at a mortuary pending autopsy.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, who personally visited the crime scene, assured the public that the suspect is in custody and would be prosecuted once investigations are concluded.
Confirming the development, Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, stated that Oladiti would be charged in court as soon as the investigative process is finalised.
