Ogun court remands man caught assaulting wife in viral video

A Magistrate Court in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, on Monday ordered the remand of a 57-year-old saw-miller, Fatai Quadri, following a viral video that captured him physically assaulting his wife, 50 year old Rukayat Quadri.

The court, presided over by Magistrate P. O. Odunsi, directed that Quadri be kept at the Ijebu Ode Correctional Centre until October 17, when the court will resume hearing on his bail application.

Quadri is facing charges of assault, domestic violence, and breach of public peace, among others, according to court documents obtained during his arraignment.

DAILY POST reports that the Ogun State Police Command had earlier confirmed Quadri’s arrest after the video of him repeatedly hitting his wife at their home in Illese-Ijebu, resulting to bodily harm, on September 15, 2025, went viral last week.

He was apprehended by officers from the Igbeba Divisional Police Headquarters, Ijebu Ode.

Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola revealed in a statement on Saturday that preliminary findings linked the assault to a marital dispute fuelled by infidelity allegations.

Odutola stated that investigations also showed that Quadri had allegedly transferred ownership of a 10-room apartment, which he built with his wife, to another woman, sparking the violent confrontation.

The statement further revealed that the victim is currently receiving medical treatment, while the suspect remains in custody.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development in Ogun State, Adijat Adeleye, condemned the incident, reiterating the government’s zero-tolerance stance on gender-based violence.

“The government is not happy with such criminal acts. Our position has always been zero tolerance to gender-based violence. Definitely, the suspect will account for his misdeeds, justice will be served, I assure the residents of the state,” she said.

Adeleye added that ministry is closely monitoring the case to ensure that justice is delivered.
