2027 presidency: Why Jonathan must not contest – Kenneth Okonkwo

Lawyer and Nollywood actor Kenneth Okonkwo has advised former President Goodluck Jonathan against contesting in the 2027 presidential election.

Okonkwo, a former spokesperson for the Peter Obi Campaign Organisation said Jonathan would be doing himself a disservice if he decides to yield to the call by many politicians to join the race for Nigeria’s number one political seat

Speaking in a video interview shared on X, the actor turned politician said that while Jonathan has the right to make political decisions for himself, he should be aware that several of his detractors would stop at nothing to drag his name through the mud.

According to Okonkwo, some of the people who spoke ill of the former president prior to the 2015 presidential election are currently in power.

He warned that these individuals are known to readily unleash their political arsenals against the opposition.

His words, “He has his own opinion to make and he is entitled to it. My own advice is that, he should not near it, he should not even contemplate it.

“The same forces that nearly destroyed his name when they were not in power are now in power, they will take his name to the toilet. They will roll him on the ground, I have been in politics and of course,” Okonkwo said.

Speaking further, Okonkwo described Jonathan as an unusual politician who, during his tenure moved against certain ideologies which are perceived as the norms within the political terrain.

“He (Jonathan) is very vulnerable because he has been a former presisent and he went against a certain convention and certain norms,” he added.
