Obidients call for arrest of Lagos NURTW chairman over threat to kill non-APC voters

The leadership of the Obidient Movement has called for the arrest and prosecution of the Lagos State Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Adekunle Mustapha.

Mustapha, popularly known as Sego was captured in a video threatening to kill any Lagos resident who votes against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

Reacting to Sego’s threat, Tanko Yunusa, the National Coordinator of the Movement in a statement urged President Bola Tinubu; the Lagos Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; the Department of State Services and sister security agencies to arrest and prosecute the NURTW chairman.

Yunusa alleged that the threat issued by Sego is a desperate attempt by the ruling party to induce voter apathy in the state ahead of the 2027 elections.

He also stated that the APC has realised that it lacks the voting strength needed to win elections in Lagos and, as such, has resorted to intimidating voters across the city of excellence.

Further citing the level of violence unleashed on members of the Obidient Movement by the NURTW members and thugs during the 2023 elections, Yunusa said there is no doubt that Sego would carry out his threats.

“Over the years, actions of murder, thuggery, political violence, extortion and other criminal acts have continued to be associated and even accepted as part of the operation of the NURTW in Lagos.

“We are also putting the International Community on notice, of these crimes against humanity and threats to peace in Nigeria, and those legally responsible, by their actions and inactions,” Yunusa stated.
